Custom formulation for personal care, and the formula is yours

Many founders start by searching for a private label personal care manufacturer in the USA. Stock private label is a different arrangement from ours. The manufacturer owns an existing formula, you put your label on it, and the same formula can be sold to any other brand that asks.

We don't sell stock formulas. Our formulation team develops each formula to your brief: the texture, the scent, the performance, and the claims you want to make. That team has developed thousands of personal care, hair care, and skin care products for a broad range of companies.

You own the formula we develop for you. That is the part that matters most. A stock formula can't set your product apart, because anyone can buy it. A formula you own can, and it stays yours as the brand grows.

Inside our Ohio facility

The team that formulates your product also makes it and fills it. There is no handoff between a lab and a separate filler. We can source every package component, or fill the components you supply.

Making

Batches are made in jacketed, high shear mixing vessels. They produce a broad range of formulas, from emulsions like lotion and cream to surfactant-based cleansers like shampoo and body wash.

Filling

Four fillers run up to 900 units per hour each. Single-head piston fillers put product into bottles, tubes, and canisters.

Hot and cold fill

Hot fill is part of the line. Balms and deodorants are filled warm and set in the container. Liquids and lotions fill cold on the same piston fillers.

Sealing, coding, labeling

Two tube sealers, a date coder, and automated and semi-automated labelers cover most package types.

Third party testing, coordinated for you

Claims on a label need data behind them. We coordinate any testing your product requires through labs we already work with, which gets our clients reduced rates. Which tests you need depends on the product and the claims you plan to make.

RIPT (repeat insult patch test)
Checks a finished formula for skin irritation and sensitization on a human panel.
PET (preservative efficacy test)
Confirms the preservative system protects the product from contamination once it is opened and used.
Consumer testing
Measures how real users rate the product, which is what supports claims about how it looks and feels.
Clinical claim support
Testing designed around a specific performance claim, run before that claim goes on the label.
Stability
Shows how the formula holds up over time, in the package it will be sold in.

Compliance for the US, Canada, and the EU

We make cosmetics. Claims like anti-dandruff, SPF, or hair regrowth make a product an OTC drug in the US, and those are outside what we make here.

US FDA
Our Ohio facility is compliant with US FDA cosmetic regulations.
Health Canada
The facility is compliant with Health Canada cosmetic requirements, for brands selling into Canada.
EU Cosmetic Regulation
The facility is compliant with the EU Cosmetic Regulation, for brands selling into the European Union.
California Proposition 65
The facility is compliant with Proposition 65, which governs warning labels for listed chemicals sold in California.
Who formulates your product

More than 75 years of consumer goods R&D

The principals behind our Ohio facility have more than 75 years combined in consumer goods R&D, across formulation, process and package development, sourcing and purchasing, compliance, commercialization, and manufacturing. The facility's president has 40 years of consumer product R&D experience, including senior leadership roles at top-tier companies. Between them they have worked at every scale, from large multinationals to startups. For a founder, that means the questions that stall a first launch, such as whether a formula will fill cleanly into the package you picked, get asked at the start instead of on the line.

Anonymized client snapshot

Hair care brand: new formulation, repeat production. We developed a new formula for the brand, not a stock base, and have produced more than 80,000 units of its line at our Ohio facility across multiple production runs. The line covers cleansers, conditioner, detangler, hair serum, and beard oil, in sizes from 1 oz to 30 oz.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order?

1,000 units per fragrance. A body wash in three scents is 3,000 units, because the minimum applies to each fragrance.

Do I own the formula?

Yes. Every formula our Ohio facility develops for you belongs to you. It is not added to a catalog or sold to another brand.

Do you offer stock formulas or private label?

No. Stock private label means putting your label on a formula the manufacturer already sells to others. We develop a custom formula for every client, to that client's brief, and the client owns it.

How long does it take to get samples and then production?

Samples take 30 days. Production takes 90 days.

Do you source packaging and components?

Either way works. We can source every component, from bottles and tubes to closures and labels, or you can supply your own. Our Ohio facility fills bottles, tubes, and canisters, and seals, date codes, and labels most package types.

Where is production done?

At our partner facility in Ohio. All of our personal care production is made in the United States.

Can you help with testing and compliance?

Yes. We coordinate any third party testing your product requires, including RIPT, PET, stability, consumer testing, and clinical claim support, through lab relationships that get our clients reduced rates. Our Ohio facility is compliant with US FDA cosmetic regulations, Health Canada, the EU Cosmetic Regulation, and California Proposition 65.
